"Black designs on gray slip with red band below lower framing lines; black rim with break in line breaks in framing lines also; clouding on bottom interior center of bowl has heart-like design. Good [condition] -- some chipping of paint on rim and exterior design; two chips interior"--Description from the Museum catalog.

Reformer, theologian. While a faculty member at Lane Theological Seminary, he supported the student "rebels" involved with the abolitionist revolt and was subsequently dismissed on October 4, 1834.
